Police probe anonymous email

more-in

The Tiruchi police on Saturday began enquiry into an anonymous email sent to the official email address of the Tiruchi Collector.

In the email, the sender reportedly claimed that bombs would go off at four different locations in the city within a few days. He had apparently demanded the Centre to release an Kashmiri terrorist, who was arrested a few months ago.

The mail was forwarded to the Commissioner of Police Tiruchi for enquiry.

Sanjay Mathur, Commissioner of Police, Tiruchi, told The Hindu that efforts were on to trace the sender of the email. It appeared that it might have been sent by a mischief monger.

Police carried out checks at vital installations and crowded places. A vigil had been mounted in the city.
