Police crack the whip on 600 offenders

In a midnight crack down on rowdy elements and ex-convicts, Thanjavur and Tiruvarur district police arrested more than 600 persons on Thursday night.

In the district, on orders from Kapil Kumar Sarathkar, Superintendent of Police, police personnel comprising Deputy Superintendents of Police, Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors conducted raids and searches in Thanjavur, Pattukottai and Kumbakonam areas from 10 p.m. till dawn.

Sixty nine cases of drunken driving were booked, 655 cases of violation of traffic rules and, warrants were issued to 68 ex-convicts.

Tiruvarur

P. Moorthy, Superintendent of Police, Tiruvarur district said that 20 history sheeters, 11 ex-convicts, 30 illegal arrack sellers, eight absconding accused and two who have not turned up at courts, were arrested in the crack down here. Forty persons were taken into custody for behaving in a suspicious manner and 238 cases were registered for traffic rule violations.
