Stressing the importance of making campuses ragging-free, A. Amalraj, Commissioner of Police, Tiruchi City, on Wednesday asked the educational institutions to carry out a campaign to sensitise students against the menace and the punishment envisaged as per law.
Speaking at a workshop organised by the Anti-Ragging Cell of Bharathidasan University, Mr. Amalraj said the ill-advised practice could no longer be followed in educational institutions. It was important for students to know about the consequences of ragging, eve-teasing and other forms of harassing fellow students. Educational institutions should take effective steps to check the practice.
Senior students should be educated on the provisions of anti-ragging laws, the senior police officer added.
Mr. Amalraj said developing a positive attitude would make them to dream big. Hard work, perseverance and commitment would enable them to achieve success.
G. Gopinath, Registrar, in his inaugural address, elaborated on the efforts taken by the university to make the campus ragging-free.
N. Manimekalai, Head, Department of Women's Studies, and P. Masilamani, Nodal Officer, Ragging Prevention Committee, spoke.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Police released a poster on anti-ragging.
