Panel confirms UGC norms violation by college

A four-member committee appointed by Bharathidasan University to inquire into complaints of mal-administration and misuse of government and UGC funds by the Tamilvel Umamaheswaranar Karanthai (TUK) Arts College, Thanjavur, has confirmed violations of UGC norms and affiliating conditions by the college administration, the Association of University Teachers (AUT) has alleged.

At its recent meeting, the AUT University Coordination Council, Tiruchi-Thanjavur Zones, urged the Department of Higher Education, and Director of Collegiate Education to appoint a Special Officer under the Tamil Nadu Private Colleges Regulation Act (TNPCR), 1976 Sec.14 (A).

Violation of regulations by the college has been proved in the spot enquiry report submitted to the department of higher education by the Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Tiruchi, N.P.M. Sathik, Secretary, Association of University Teachers – University Coordination Council, Tiruchi-Thanjavur Zones, said . Unit office bearers of 22 colleges in Tiruchi-Thanjavur region and Senate members of Bharathidasan University took part in the meeting chaired by M. Ravichandran, professor. K. Pandiyan, AUT State President; and P. Jayagandhi, National Secretary, All India Federation of University and College Teachers' Organisations, took part.
