Over 8 tonnes of plastics seized in Pudukottai district

Periodic checks by monitoring teams have resulted in seizure of 8.823 tonnes of plastics in the district since the ban was imposed by the State government from January 1.

Alongside carrying out awareness programmes on the hazards of using plastics, multiple teams were constituted by the Pudukottai municipal authorities in an effort to check usage of plastics.

Periodic checks in Pudukottai municipality limits led to the seizure of 3.50 tonnes of plastics till now. A fine amount of ₹10,000 was imposed on the violators.

The surprise checks were continuing with the result that the usage of plastic had come down significantly in Pudukottai municipality, said its Commissioner Jeeva Subramanian in a press release issued on Thursday.

Checks in Aranthangi municipality led to the seizure of four tonnes of plastics with a fine amount of ₹28,650 imposed on violators. Around 1.15 tonnes of plastics were seized in eight town panchayats in the district, besides seizure of 173 kg of plastics in 13 panchayat union areas. Efforts were on to completely check use of plastics in the district, the release added.
