No campaigning near places of worship, Trichy SP tells political parties

Tiruchi police convened a meeting with the representatives of political parties here on Tuesday and explained the guidelines issued by the Election Commission (EC) to be adhered to by the parties.

The meeting held at the District Police Office here was presided over by Superintendent of Police S.Rajeswari. Additional Deputy Superintendents of Police, Deputy Superintendents of Police, and inspectors attended.

SP Rajeswari, who spoke on the model code of conduct, urged the parties to desist from campaigning near places of worship, schools, colleges, and hospitals.

Distribution of cash, gifts, and organising feasts were prohibited.

Only three vehicles must accompany a candidate during campaign, the SP said. Participants were also asked to desist from installing banners and writing poll graffiti in public places.

Political parties were asked to convey poll-related complaints to the election control room functioning round the clock at the District Police Office on 0431–2331023.
