A Nigerian national, who escaped from the special camp at Tiruchi Central Prison complex and re-arrested later, was deported on Thursday.

Police said Steven John was detained at the special camp after being booked under the Foreigners Act and Passport Act by Tiruppur police. He escaped from the camp in Tiruchi on July 19 and was detained in Haryana in September. He was brought back and subsequently lodged at Puzhal Prison.

Subsequently, it was found that Steven’s original name was Madu Buchi Stanley and he travelled to India under a bogus name. He was deported from Chennai airport on Thursday.
