The price of nendran banana will remain stable over the next two months, the Market Intelligence and Business Promotion Centre of the Department of Agri Marketing and Agri Business has said in an advisory to farmers.
The price of the variety would range from Rs. 26 to Rs. 28 a kg till June, the advisory said, citing an analysis of the nendran in the Coimbatore for the past six years, conducted by the back office of the Agro Marketing Intelligence and Business Promotion Centre functioning at the Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. At present, the price of was in the range of Rs. 25 to Rs. 28 a kg, said R. Chandrasekaran, Deputy Director, Market Intelligence and Business Promotion Centre, Tiruchi, citing the analysis.
Nendran is grown in Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Tiruchi, and Kanyakumari districts. The variety was raised on 24,869 hectares of land in these districts in 2013-14, accounting for 0.81 per cent increase over the previous year.
The variety used in the preparation of chips withstands wind and hence high-density planting is adopted by farmers.
