Nehru seeks advance bail for second time

In a case of alleged grabbing of a private hotel situated in Tiruchi city

September 28, 2011 01:52 pm | Updated 01:52 pm IST - MADURAI:

Former Transport Minister K.N. Nehru has moved the Madras High Court Bench here seeking anticipatory bail in a criminal case registered by the Tiruchi City Crime Branch police in connection with alleged grabbing of a private hotel situated in Tiruchi city.

The High Court had already granted advance bail to him in the case early this month with a direction to appear before the judicial Magistrate concerned within 15 days. However, he could not comply with the condition as he was in jail in connection with other cases against him.

The 15-day period ended on September 22 and hence he had filed the present petition seeking advance bail afresh. Stating that he had not been arrested in this case so far, he claimed that the police were waiting to arrest him in this case if he was granted bail in other cases. He also sought advance bail on the ground that he was Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's candidate for the ensuring by-election for Tiruchi (West) Assembly Constituency and hence his presence was necessary for election campaigning.
