The Deputy Director General of National Cadet Corps, Commodore Atul Kumar Rastogi, inspected the nearly five acres of land allotted by the State government at Olaiyur here for setting up a NCC Training Academy.
Commodore Rastogi inspected the site on Wednesday accompanied by NCC Tiruchi Group officers during his two-day visit to the Group Headquarters and its units. Mr. Rastogi was given a briefing on NCC activities in Tiruchi Group by NCC Group Commander, Tiruchi, Colonel C. Elavarasan.
During the briefing, the Group Commander brought out the problems faced by the NCC units under Tiruchi Group with regard to non-availability of training area and firing ranges besides the measures taken by the NCC units. The Group Commander placed a request to the Deputy Director General to allocate a Naval NCC unit and an Army NCC unit for the Tiruchi Group. He explained that NCC coverage in Karur, Perambalur and the coastal districts of Ramanathapuram, Pudukottai and Thanjavur were less and allocation of two more NCC battalions would fill up the voids. The Deputy Director General said he would consider the proposal.
The Group Commander also informed that there were 29 colleges and 31 schools which had registered for NCC and were placed in the waiting list. The Deputy Director General was briefed on the Rifle Firing Simulator and Microlite Flying Simulator established at Tiruchi and Kumbakonam Battalions.
Earlier upon arrival, the Deputy Director General was received by Colonel Elavarasan. A Guard of Honour was given to the Deputy Director General by NCC cadets here, a press release from Lieutenant Colonel P. Kaliappan, Officer Commanding, 3 (TN) Comp Tech Coy NCC, Tiruchi said on Thursday.
