A 46-year-old man who came out of jail after completing the conviction period was hacked to death by an armed gang at Paravakarai main road in Eravanacheri police station limits in Tiruvarur district on Monday night.
Police identified the deceased as A. Mohan of Kalappalagaram against whom a case under the Arms Act in Eravanchery police station was pending. Police sources said he was involved in a couple of murder cases, including the one in Palaiyur police station limit in Nagapattinam district and was sentenced to life imprisonment in that case.
He completed the sentence period one-and-half years ago and had come out. Police sources said Mohan was driving a car when an armed gang waylaid him at Paravakarai main road. The gang murdered Mohan using sharp weapons and fled from the spot.
