Youngsters battled across the 64 squares at The Hindu In School Chess Competition 2019 held at E.R. Higher Secondary School in the city on Saturday.

The tournament was conducted in under-10, under-13 and under-15 categories. It attracted over 100 students from Tiruchi and neighbouring districts. The tournament was played on Swiss league basis under latest FIDE Rapid rules.

P. Vijay, Territory Manager, JSW Steel Limited, and Gnanam Athappan, Partner, Classic Foods, gave away the prizes. Presented by JSW Colouron+, the competition was held under the aegis of the Tiruchi District Chess Association, affiliated to the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association. Classic Foods was the regional sponsor of the event.

Boys: Under-10: 1. Kamaleshwar, 2. V.P. Giridhar, 3. Dharshan Ratnakar. Under-13: 1. A. Nizsaanth Nobel, 2. P.G. Sivasabhari, 3. D.V. Kamalnath. Under-15: 1. Dharma Surendar Raj, 2. J. Surhenthar, 3. P.R. Nandakumar Kanna.

Girls: Under-10: 1. D. Dheva Hansika, 2. M. Aditi, 3. P. Abenaya. Under-13: 1. A. Raveena Shri, 2. S. Roshni, 3. H. Abinaya. Under-15: 1. J. Swetha, 2. K. Abinaya.
