Lock-up death alleged

A 34-year-old man from Keerakalur village near Thiruthuraipoondi, who was arrested by the Thiruthuraipoondi police on Monday in connection with the theft of a tractor, died at Tiruvarur Medical College Hospital this morning.

Relatives of Sundar alleged that he was beaten up by the police before being admitted to the Tiruvarur Medical College Hospital. They staged a road roko at Nilakudi village near Keerakalur demanding action against police.

According to police, Sundar was arrested after Govindaraj, a homeopathy doctor of Nangudi village near Thiruthuraipoondi lodged a complaint with Thiruthuraipoondi police in connection with his tractor's theft in September.
