Traffic in the busy Cantonment area was affected for some time on Monday morning as lawyers resorted to “road roko” agitation condemning the foisting of cases against them by the police.

The members of Tiruchi Bar Association met in the morning and decided to block traffic to express their resentment against police action. Soon, a group of lawyers blocked the traffic at the MGR statue junction near the court. They demanded action against the police responsible for foisting of cases.

Police officials rushed to the spot and held discussions with the representatives of agitating lawyers. They refused to withdraw the road blockade.

Bhavani, Srirangam tahsildar, pacified the lawyers and said that this issue could be discussed with the Collector on Tuesday. Following this, the lawyers dispersed peacefully. The agitation which lasted an hour resulted in traffic jam.
