Large turnout for Kaisika Ekadasi at Srirangam

A large number of devotees offered worship to Namperumal at Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy temple on Sunday night on the occasion of ‘Kaisika Ekadasi’ festival, observed about a month before Vaikunta Ekadasi.

The significance of the festival, among other things, include the special purappadu of Namperumal from the sanctum sanctorum – first in the morning and later at night; recital of Kaisika Puranam by Sri Parasara Bhattar and the Brahmma ratha yatra in honour of Sri Parasara Bhattar.

It all commenced with the purappadu of Namperumal in the morning from the sanctum sanctorum to Sandanu mandapam where special tirumanajanam was performed. Namperumal was later taken to the sanctum sanctorum.

At night, Namperumal was brought from sanctum sanctorum to Arjuna mandapam where 365 cloths were adorned for about two hours from 9.30 p.m. Arayar seva was performed. “Sri Parasara Bhattar” recited the Kaisika Puranam from 11.30 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Later, Namperumal was taken from Arjuna mandapam and reached the sanctum sanctorum .

Later, “Sri Parasara Bhattar” was honoured with Brahmma ratham.

“Sri Bhattar” seated in a holy pallakku was taken by devotees around the four Uthirai Veedhis before reaching his home.
