Lakhs of children given polio drops

Health staff, voluntary organisations took part in the campaign

Polio drops were administered to children below the age of five in the second phase of the pulse polio mass immunisation programme in Thanjavur district on Sunday.

N.Subbaiyan, Collector, inaugurated the drive at Rajah Mirasudhar Government Hospital. About 2.28 lakh children were immunised in the district at 1,510 centres.

PERAMBALUR

Polio drops were administered at 362 centres in the district. Darez Ahamed, Collector, inaugurated the campaign at the centre at the new bus stand .

A total of 1,448 health staff and members of voluntary organisations took part in the campaign.

PUDUKOTTAI

Ministers N. Subramanian and C. Vijaya Baskar inaugurated the campaign at Kamarajpuram Municipal Health Centre in the town, in the presence of C.Manoharan, Collector. About 1.30 lakh children were covered in the campaign through 1,316 centres, including 16 mobile centres.

TIRUVARUR

About 1.15 lakh children were covered in the district and the campaign was inaugurated by R. Kamaraj, State Food Minister, at the Mannargudi sub-centre in the presence of S. Natarajan, Collector. A total of 831 centres functioned in the district and over 3,500 health staff and other volunteers took part.

KARUR

Transport Minister V. Senthil Balaji inaugurated the drive in Karur.

A total of 812 centres, including 731 in rural areas, have been established to administer polio drops to the infants in the target group.
