The Musiri taluk unit of the Bharathiya Kisan Sangam has resolved to support the political party which promises to link all southern rivers and waive all crop loans until the project is executed.

A resolution adopted at the general body of the Musiri taluk unit of the association held at Musiri recently said that only by linking the southern rivers such as Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna, Netravati and West-flowing rivers with those in Tamil Nadu that the water shortage in the State could be solved. The association members would also stage a demonstration in front the Rashtrapathi Bhavan in New Delhi on May 20 to press for the demand, the meeting resolved.

Until the project materialises all crop loans should be waived. If no party came up with the assurance, the association members in Musiri Taluk would opt for the NOTA (none of the above) in the Lok Sabha election, the resolution said.

The association also demanded sanction of loans for digging wells in view of the monsoon failure over the last three years and if the loans were denied citing the election code, farmers would lay siege to the Election Commission, another resolution said.

The meeting also called upon the State government to release 3,000 cusecs of water from the Mettur Dam to meet the requirements of crops dependent on 17 irrigation canals.
