Kidnapped baby rescued, brought back to Tiruchi

March 13, 2012 01:57 pm | Updated 01:57 pm IST - TIRUCHI:

A 10-month-old male baby kidnapped from here on Sunday was rescued within a day from Tiruppur by a special team of the city police. Three teams, each headed by an inspector, were constituted to trace the baby and the kidnapper after the infant's mother A. Rajeswari lodged a complaint at the Ariyamangalam police station where a case was booked under Section IPC 363 (kidnap).

Police inquired with Rajeswari's father-in-law Marimuthu and his friend Venkateswaran. Marimuthu had taken the baby along for a morning walk and handed the infant to Venkateswaran. The baby again changed hands and was given to Kannan, said to be a labourer at Tiruppur. While Marimuthu was arrested, Kannan, whose family is in Tiruchi, was absconding.
