The Gandhi Market police arrested a nine-member gang which allegedly kidnapped a mobile phone shop owner in the city and rescued the abducted person on Thursday.

The arrested gang members were sent for remand. Police sources said the mobile phone shop owner Faizal alias Azharuddin who runs an outlet in a commercial complex on NSB road had some tiff with regard to money transactions with one of the gang members Farooq.

Farooq and his associates allegedly kidnapped Faizal from Eda Street a couple of days ago after calling the latter for talks and took him to Tiruvarur.

Upon coming to know about the offence, a team from Gandhi Market police acting on a complaint apprehended the gang and rescued the abducted person from Tiruvarur.
