Domestic movement at Tiruchi international airport is set to soar further with the Jet Airways proposing to start a daily service in the Tiruchi - Bengaluru- Tiruchi sector.

The private airline which already operates flights in the Tiruchi- Chennai - Tiruchi and Tiruchi - Mumbai-Delhi sectors has planned to launch the service to Bengaluru from here on July 1.

Airline sources said the proposed new service to Bengaluru would be operated using an 'ATR'-72 type aircraft. The daily service to the garden city would be operated in the morning.

As per the schedule put out in the airline's website, the flight from Tiruchi will leave at 9.15 a.m. and reach Bengaluru at 10.25 a.m. The return service would be in the evening, said the sources.

Bengaluru will be the fourth destination for the Jet Airways with respect to operating flights from Tiruchi. The proposed new service to Bengaluru by the Jet Airways is to come three days after IndiGo airline's plan to start a new service in the Tiruchi - Bengaluru sector from June 28 onwards. Until a few months ago, Tiruchi had domestic connectivity only to Chennai before the Jet Airways launched service in the Mumbai - Tiruchi - Mumbai-New Delhi sector in March-end.

Tiruchi airport is expected to get even more busier from next month with IndiGo airlines having announced to start four services a day in the Chennai - Tiruchi sector from June 1 besides daily services to Bengaluru and Kochi from June 28. With Jet Airways also planning to start a new service to Bengaluru from July, the domestic traffic movements is poised to soar further, say stakeholders. The airline sources expect a good traffic in the Tiruchi - Bengaluru sector since the demand in the market was high. The traffic is expected to be heavy to Bengaluru during weekends, they believe.

The airline sources strongly believe that they would be able to tap the demand since there was only one train to Bengaluru from Tiruchi every day besides operation of some government and private buses to the garden city.
