The fifth edition of the India International Science Festival jointly organised by the Department of Science and Technology along with Vijnana Bharati, an NGO working towards awareness of science, is calling for participants, especially from Tamil Nadu.
T. V. Venkateswaran, Scientist, Department of Science and Technology, said that the participation was high from Tamil Nadu scientists, students and the general public every year. This year, the event is being held in Kolkata with the theme- RISEN (research, innovation and science empowering the nation) India, he said, while addressing the press here on Saturday.
A highlight of the programme is setting up a “Students' Science Village”, where more than 2,500 school students from different parts of the country would be taking part. “Members of Parliament have been asked to nominate five students each along with their teacher from their constituency to be part of the village under the Pradhan Mantri Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana,” said S. Sudhakar, Senior Scientist, CSIR-Central Electrochemical Research Institute, Karaikudi. These students would be engaged in several science-related and have opportunities to interact with important scientists and even Nobel Prize winners, claimed Mr. Venkateswaran.
An Agricultural Conclave for farmers’ growth and a North Eastern Conclave for students are among the 29 events planned for the four-day event. About 12,000 students, scientists and other stakeholders are expected to participate. Those interested can register on www.scienceindiafest.org
