Tension prevailed for sometime on Monday morning near the railway junction as the Thanjavur Corporation officials started removing party flag posts installed along the road in view of the model code of conduct.

As they razed down a pedestal on which a party flag mast was installed, cadre from all political parties rushed to the spot and objected to the action of the Corporation officials.

They had a heated argument with the officials and pointed out that they had already lowered their respective party flags from the masts.

Cadre cutting across party lines told the officials that they would not allow demolition or dismantling of flag mast from the pedestal when the officials insisted that the flag masts must be removed as per the model code of conduct.

After the intervention of the police, they suggested that they be allowed to cover the plaques and the iron masts with paper which was eventually agreed to by the officials to bring an end to the impasse.
