Ahead of the upcoming Parliamentary elections, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Thanjavur Range), Sanjay Kumar, convened a meeting with Home Guards personnel of the Tiruchi Range here on Monday.

Area Commanders and Deputy Area Commanders of Tiruchi, Karur, Perambalur, Ariyalur, and Pudukottai participated in the meeting that was aimed at preparing the Home Guards for the forthcoming polls.

The DIG, in charge of Tiruchi Range, asked the Area Commanders and Deputy Area Commanders of Home Guards of the five districts to sensitise their subordinates to the upcoming elections and to be in a state of preparedness.

He ascertained the manpower strength of the Home Guards of the five districts and asked the Area Commanders and Deputy Area Commanders to fill the vacancies, if any, at the earliest ahead of the elections as their services would be utilised for poll security.

Mr. Kumar asked the participants to clarify doubts pertaining to elections and assist the police in the smooth conduct of the polls.

The Home Guards is a voluntary and honorary organisation and considered an auxiliary force to the police.
