The National Institute of Technology - Tiruchi (NIT-T) has been asked by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes for an explanation on a complaint of “harassment” lodged by a Ph.D. student.

Alleging caste discrimination, the student, pursuing fourth year of Ph.D, complained that the indifferent nature of her guide was the cause for her failure in comprehensive examination twice, and subsequent cancellation of Ph.D. registration.

The candidate had applied for review of the cancellation.

Dismissing allegation of harassment, NIT-T Director Mini Shaji Thomas said the review request of the candidate could be considered only by the Senate of the institution.
