Free rice distribution at fair price shops begins

Free distribution of rice at fair price shops for cardholders began here on Wednesday.

According to Collector M. S. Shanmugham, the scheme that is being implemented in 902 full-time fair price shops and 250 part-time fair price shops, will benefit 5,32,314 ration cardholders.

Based on the number of persons in the family, the cardholders would get free rice from 12 kilos to 20 kilos. A total of 91,361 card holders covered under Antyodaya Anna Yojana scheme will be provided 35 kilos of free rice.

Cardholders can get free rice on any day of the month. Sixty-two per cent of the required rice has been allotted to fair price shops for distribution under the scheme.

The Collector advised cardholders to obtain the rice on the day of their convenience.

Tiruvarur

Collector K. Baskaran inspected the distribution at the fair price shop at Agraharam street at Needamangalam in the district.

He said that cent per cent allotment of rice has been made to all the fair price shops in the district for distribution. In the district, free rice will be given to 2,64,073 cardholders and 60,864 cardholders covered under Antyodaya Anna Yojana scheme. R.Venkatraman, District Supply Officer, accompanied the Collector during his inspection.

Karur

Public should make use of the State government's free rice scheme as quality rice is being supplied through the fair price shops, according to District Collector J. Uma Maheswari. Inaugurating the free rice scheme at a fair price shop at Thanthonrimalai here on Wednesday, Ms.Uma Maheswari said that a total of 2,77,868 cardholders in the district would benefit every month and rice would be provided through the 547 fair price shops in the district.

While 2,50,109 card-holders are eligible for free rice, the 27,759 cardholders who are beneficiaries of the Antyodaya Anna Yojana scheme would get 35 kg rice every month. The Collector inspected the quality of rice being supplied through the shops in the presence of senior district officials.
