Principal Secretary of Public Works Department S.K. Prabakar on Wednesdy inspected the enbankments of the Cauvery and the Coleroon and their tributaries to determine the force of flow.

In Nagapattinam district, Mr. Prabakar inspected the works being undertaken at Alakkudi where there was a breach in the Coleroon.

The senior official also suggested measures to quicken the process and to complete the works with permanent effect.

District Collector S. Suresh Kumar said blockages affecting the flow of the river would be removed after the water level receded.

Mr. Prabakar later visited Anaikkarai and Kallannai in Thanjavur district to determine the force of flow in the Coleroon and the Grand Anicut Canal.

Accompanied by Collector A. Annadurai and senior PWD officials, Mr. Prabakar ensured the release of 3,400 cusecs from Kallanai Dam into Grand Anicut Canal and the Vennaru, Coleroon and Cauvery.

He also took stock of the ongoing works for strengthening of embankment of the Coleroon in Vadapadi Panchayat.

He instructed PWD officials to make sure that water reached the tail-end areas.
