Feast for the senses at cookery contest

Season 2 of The Hindu Group ‘Our State Our Taste’ cooking competition held in the city on Saturday saw participants of all ages showcase their culinary skills.

Around 150 participants took part in the contest to identify the master chef of Tamil Nadu with a majority bringing multiple dishes, including vegetarian and non-vegetarian recipes. They were judged by a panel of judges consisting of celebrity chef Damu, Balaji Shaktivel, a chef in Singapore, and K. Durairajan, executive chef at Ramyas Hotels, where the event was held.

“Tiruchi is known for its non-vegetarian dishes and the participants delivered as expected,” said Mr. Damu.

The winners were selected on the basis of consistency, texture, flavour, taste and presentation.

Distributing prizes, Allirani Balaji, founder of Yugaa, a city-based NGO, called upon women not to waste their talent by staying at home but step out and share it with the world.

V. Jayalakshmi who presented an array of non-vegetarian dishes, was chosen as the winner. Uma Vairavan and Premmi David took came second and third. They will stake part at the grand finale in Chennai along with winners from other districts.
