Farmers representatives belonging to various associations, organised under the banner of Tamil Nadu Farmers Joint Action Council, observed a fast in the city on Tuesday condemning the Centre for delaying the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board (CMB).

The council flayed the Centre for extending stepmotherly treatment to Tamil Nadu even after a spate of protests by various sections of society in the State demanding formation of the CMB.

The council threatened that its members would attempt suicide by entering the sea in Nagapattinam on May 15 if the CMB was not constituted immediately.

K. Chellamuthu presided over the fast.

Later in the day, a section of the protesters, carrying earthen pots, marched to the Cauvery river and broke them on the river bed in a symbolic protest against the Centre.
