Members of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangam, who were arrested for staging a road blockade on the Tiruchi-Chennai National highway in the outskirts of the city on Tuesday protesting the distraint proceedings initiated by banks against farmers defaulting on agricultural loans, were released on bail on Thursday. While 201 farmers were arrested when they resorted to the protest near No.1 Tollgate on the national highway, 17 others were arrested within the city limits. All of them were remanded in judicial custody and lodged at the Tiruchi Central Prison
On Thursday, all the farmers were granted bail by Judicial Magistrate II and Judicial Magistrate IV. following which they were released.
