Unique collection of handloom sarees and other textiles from different parts of the country, worth over Rs.20 lakh, were on display at the annual exhibition ‘handlooms’ organised by Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited at its Poompuhar showroom in the city on Friday.

On display are Madurai Sungadi saris, cotton fancy saris, printed saris, cotton bed spreads, cotton bags, door curtains, cotton churidars, cushion covers, sofa backs, shawls and stoles, scarf, carpets, wall hangings, zari products, Kalamkari paintings, and hand-crafted textiles.

The corporation has also displayed bronze icons, wood carvings, brass lamps, Thanjavur art plates, clay terracotta, rosewood furniture, rosewood and teakwood pooja mandapam, jute products, Thanjavur garlands, and artificial jewellery.

The corporation has targeted to market Rs.7lakh worth goods through the exhibition. Through a similar exhibition held last year, poompuhar has achieved sales to the tune of Rs.2 lakhs, according to A.N.Xavier Arokya Selvam, manager of the showroom. The Poompuhar will accept all credit and debit cards without service charges. The exhibition will be open till July 31, including Sundays.
