Candidates of major parties file nomination papers

Candidates of major political parties including those of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Tamil Maanila Congress filed their nomination papers for the Thanjavur Parliamentary Constituency on Monday.

The DMK nominee, S. S. Palanimanickam, former Union Minister and five time-MP, garlanded the statues of former Chief Minister, C. N. Annadurai and rationalist, E. V. R. Periyar, before submitting his nomination papers to the District Election Officer-cum-Returning Officer for the Thanjavur Parliamentary Constituency, A. Annadurai.

His main opponent, the TMC candidate, N. R. Natarajan also filed his nomination papers today with the Returning Officer and Collector A. Annadurai.

While the TMC candidate’s brother, N. R. Rengasamy filed his papers as the ‘dummy’ candidate for N. R. Natarajan, for S. S. Palanimanickam, a DMK cadre Namasivayam filed his papers as a ‘dummy’ candidate.

As on Monday, 16 persons including former Union Minister S. S. Palanimanickam have filed their nomination papers for the Thanjavur Parliamentary Constituency.

Tiruvarur

The main contestants for the by-election for the Tiruvarur Assembly constituency, the DMK and AIADMK nominees have filed their nomination papers on Monday.

The DMK nominee, K. Kalaivanan alias Poondi K. Kalaivanan who had submitted his papers to the Returning Officer, Murugadoss, at the Revenue Divisional Office, Tiruvarur, has mentioned in his affidavit that there was no criminal case pending against him and he was not convicted in any case. Further he had stated that movable properties worth ₹44.86 lakh stands in his name and ₹13.93 lakh worth movable properties were in his spouse’s name. He had ₹1.75 crore worth of immovable properties in his name and ₹90 lakh worth properties in his wife’s name. The AIADMK candidate for Tiruvarur Assembly Constituency, R. Jeevanandam and Naam Thamizhar Katchi nominee, Vinothini have also filed their nomination papers with the Returning Officer, Muruganandam on Monday.

In his affidavit, Jeevanandam has stated that he has ₹6.24 lakh worth movable properties in his name and immovable properties valued at ₹1.24 crore.

Mayiladuthurai

The DMK candidate for Mayiladuthurai Lok Sabha constituency, S. Ramalingam has declared that he and his spouse have movable assets worth ₹28,55,095. The value of their immovable assets is ₹ 1,05,00,000. They have liabilities to the extent of ₹ 2,15,000. AIADMK candidate S. Asaimani and his spouse have movable assets worth ₹ 42,07,269, and immovable assets worth ₹ 1.25 crore.

Seven other candidates, one representing Bahujan Samaj Party and six independents have filed their nominations for the constituency so far.

Nagapattinam

M. Selvaraj, the CPI candidate for the Nagapattinam Lok Sabha constiuency has submitted that the worth of movable asset in his name and those of his family members is ₹ 19,32,837. He owns immovable assets to the value of ₹ 26,40,000, and has liabilities amounting to ₹ 12,51,381

M. Saravanan,the AIADMK candidate, has declared in his affidavit that the he and his family members have movable assets worth ₹ 45,37,618 and immovable assets worth ₹ 1,39,55,000. The liabilities amount to ₹14,29,090.

Eight other candidates - one BSP and seven independents - have filed their nominations for the constituency so far.

Perambalur

The Indhiya Jananayaka Katchi founder T.R. Paarivendhar contesting on Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam symbol in Perambalur Parliamentary constituency filed his nomination papers before the Returning Officer and Perambalur Collector V. Santha at the District Collectorate on Monday.

In the affidavit filed before the Returning Officer, the 77-year-old founder of SRM Group of institutions has stated that gross total value of his movable assets was to the tune of ₹ 19,84,04,174 which includes ₹ 5,74,86,106 in the form of bank shares, fixed deposit and others. Jewellery, bullion and other valuable things weighing 3,890 grams belonging to him is valued at ₹ 89,38,784. The total value of movable assets of his spouse P. Easwari is ₹ 3,80,36,234 including jewellery weighing 8,040 grams valued at ₹ 1,27,30,804.

The current market value of his immovable assets is ₹ 50,28,58,880, while it is ₹ 23,34,31,080 in the case of his spouse. He had liabilities in the form of loans from bank, financial institutions and others to the extent of ₹ 5,72,08,800, while it is ₹ 87,26,270 in the case of his spouse.

The AIADMK nominee for the Perambalur Parliamentary constituency and former Minister N.R. Sivapathy filed his nomination papers before the Returning Officer and Perambalur Collector V. Santha on Monday.

In the affidavit, Mr. Sivapathi has declared that his total movable assets in the form of investments, motor vehicles,jewellery and plant and machinery was valued at ₹ 96,56,994. The current market value of his immovable assets is ₹ 2,85,55,000.

Karur

Fifteen nominations were filed for the Karur constituency on Monday. AIADMK nominee and sitting MP M. Thambi Durai presented two set of nomination papers before Returning Officer T. Anbalagan. K.C. Paramasivam of Karur filed nomination as Thambi Durai's alternative candidate.

S. Jothimani, 43, of the Congress filed nomination papers in the presence of former Ministers Chinnasamy and V. Senthil Balaji of the DMK. R. Chinnasamy of Chinnavangalampalayam filed papers as alternative candidate to Jothimani. As many as 17 candidates have filed nomination papers for Karur constituency.

Chidambaram

Thol. Thirumavalavan, founder of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, and P. Chandrasekar of AIADMK were among three candidates who filed nomination for Chidambaram constituency. They filed papers before Returning Officer M. Vijayalakshmi in Ariyalur.
