An omni bus driver was killed and 25 passengers were injured after the vehicle hit a goods carrier and overturned along Tiruchi-Madurai National Highway near Viralimalai in the district in the early hours of Tuesday.
The bus with 36 passengers on board was on its way to Nagercoil from Chennai when the accident occurred around 3.30 a.m. on Kondamanaickenpatti diversion road.
Police sources said the bus hit the goods carrier that was proceeding ahead, veered off course and fell into a dry water body and overturned.
The driver, S. Murugan, 32, of Tirunelveli district died on the spot. The injured passengers were admitted to Tiruchi Government Hospital. Viralimalai Police have registered a case.
