Headmaster of every school should draw up action plan to improve the performance of their students, especially slow learners, in the SSLC and Plus Two public examinations, said S. Kannappan, Director of School Education, here on Tuesday.

Speaking at a meeting to review the performance of schools in Tiruchi district, Mr. Kannappan pointed out that the department had brought out the updated study material for slow learners for both Plus Two and SSLC so much so that teachers could identify slow learners and focus on improving their performance using the material supplied to them.

He pointed out that the district had moved up from the 16{+t}{+h}position to the third among the districts in the State in the SSLC exams last year by achieving a pass percentage of 97.62.

Teachers and headmasters should work in coordination to improve the position to take Tiruchi to the top among the districts this academic year. “Tiruchi was a potential district to achieve the top ranking in the State. Headmasters, in coordination with the subject teachers, should work as a team to achieve this,” he said.

Special coaching

Mr. Kannappan instructed the headmasters and teachers to organise special coaching for slow learners utilising the study material brought out by the department.

The State government has been making the highest budgetary allocation for the education sector so that the younger generation was equipped well.

Pass percentage is only a short term objective and teachers should ensure that students, right from class 6, got wholesome education and were equipped to face the competitive world.

“You should kindle interest among students, especially in science, and impart value education.

Teachers should serve as role models and motivate their students,” he said.

P.A. Naresh, Joint Director, and N. Anandhi, Chief Educational Officer, spoke.
