Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam cadre and those belonging to other Opposition parties took out a silent procession in the city on Sunday to mourn the death of former Chief Minister and DMK leader M. Karunanidhi.

A garlanded portrait of the late leader was kept on a decked vehicle at Thillai Nagar from where the procession commenced in the evening.

DMK former Minister and party's south district secretary K. N. Nehru, DMK Rajya Sabha Member Tiruchi Siva, good number of party cadre besides those belonging to the Congress, Vidhuthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Left parties and the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam took part.

Many DMK cadre wore black shirts besides holding party flags during the procession which culminated at Chinthamani.

The DMK cadre paid tributes to their late leader and garlanded the statue of DMK founder Annadurai at Chinthamani.

A similar silent procession was taken out by DMK cadre in Perambalur town on Sunday.
