The branch secretary of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam of Kumbakudi village near Tiruchi and five others have been arrested by the police on land grabbing charge.
According to police, T.Sankar, the DMK branch secretary of Kumbakudi, and his father Thangaraj of Velayuthankudi Suriyur had conspired along with the other four accused, J.Xavier, a retired village administrative officer of Bheema Nagar in Tiruchi, Ayyar alias V.Periyasamy of Chinna Suriyur, X.Joseph of Varaganeri and N.Gandhimathi of Madambakkam in Chennai, to create forged documents to illegally occupy three acres of dry land at Suriyur near Tiruchi.
The land, valued at Rs.20 lakh, was registered in the name of late Rosario, father of Christopher Jaisingh, an employee of Ordnance Factory.
The accused were alleged to have created forged documents to show that the land had been sold to Gandhimathi by Rosario of Ariyamangalam, apparently a fictitious person, and it was subsequently purchased by Sankar. The land was later converted into residential plots and sold by Sankar, police said.
Based on a complaint from Christopher Jaisingh, a case was registered by the special cell investigating land grab cases and all the six accused were arrested by the police.
