Names of college students should be enrolled in the voters list during the summary revision of electoral roll, said Sudip Jain, observer for the electoral roll and chairman and managing director of Tamil Nadu Energy Development Corporation.
Presiding over a meeting to review the progress of the summary revision of electoral roll here on Sunday, Mr. Sudip Jain said that it has been brought to the notice of the Election Commission that not all eligible college students had been included so far in the voters list.
Immediate action should be taken to include all the college students. He advised the officials to visit the colleges and issue the forms directly to the students.
Tahsildars and election tahsildars should re-visit the colleges and get the filled-in forms during the current process for inclusion of their names.
Mr. Sudip Jain said that the forms should be distributed to every individual directly by the officials, without the assistance of any political representative.
Officials should avoid bulk distribution of forms.
Also, awareness should be created among the school and college students of the summary revision of electoral roll, so that the masses would be sensitised to its importance.
Further, wide publicity should be made through the mass media about the process. Booth level officers should conduct the verification by visiting the houses of the voters.
Mr. Sudip Jain visited the special camp at TELC middle school and inspected the revision process. T. Munusamy, District Collector, V. Manikandan and B. Rathinasamy Revenue Divisional Officers were present.
