Directive on stamping of ration cards for LPG refill withdrawn

The Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department has withdrawn its recent directive to LPG distributors to verify and stamp the ration cards of consumers at the time of booking refill with respect to the number of cylinders held by them.

According to sources, the State government has instructed the withdrawal as there were widespread complaints that the stamping requirement had put domestic LPG consumers into much hardship.

Under the previous directive, distributors were asked to verify and stamp the status of the LPG consumers with respect to the number of cylinders held by them on their ration cards. The move was apparently aimed at preventing consumers with double cylinders from drawing kerosene from the public distribution system.

Long queues of the consumers were witnessed at almost every gas distribution agency office until a few days back as consumers rushed in to get the stamping.

However, based on the instructions from the State government, the Department has withdrawn its directive.

According to sources, the Department was now collating the information already available with the LPG distributors with respect to number of the cylinders held by their consumers. This would be checked with the A registers available with the ration cards.
