It was a day of colours for most school children around the city on Monday. But for 65 differently abled children from rural pockets, colours turned out to be the celebratory route of marking Children's Day.
The drawing contest ‘taare zameen par' organised by Round Table 54 and Ladies Circle 33 turned out to be the creative canvas for children with cerebral palsy from the Musiri, Lalgudi, Thuraiyur and Manapparai branches of the Spastics Society of Tiruchi.

Children were classified under four categories according to their abilities- while those with better hand co-ordination tried their hand at seed collage and bud painting, crayon colouring and leaf printing were the choices of the others.
According to C.Shanthakumar, Director, Spastics Society of Tiruchi, art and crafts are part of therapy for spastic children to enhance motor abilities, particularly upper limb coordination. Painting and colouring are touted to improve finger co-ordination and control involuntary movements
