Devotees in large numbers offered worship at Mariamman Temple at Samayapuram near here offering flowers to the deity on the occasion of Poochorithal festival on Sunday.

One of the major festivals of the temple, it is spread over four weeks beginning from the last Sunday of the Tamil month Maasi till the last Sunday of the Tamil month Panguni.

The festival marks the commencement of the holy fast, Pachai Pattini Viratham, by Goddess Mariamman for 28 days for the welfare of devotees. The festival began withVigneshwarar puja, punyaka vaajanam, vaasthu shanthi and kaapu katuthal for Amman.
