A large number of devotees witnessed the special maha yagnam, 'Mahanyasa Ekadasa Rudhra japam' and 'Avahanti homam'; and special 'maha abhishekam' at Mahendramangalam on the banks of the Cauvery near Thottiyam, on Wednesday, on the occasion of the 'anusham' star signifying the birth star of Sri Paramacharya.

It is in this village that Sri Paramacharya stayed for a period of three years from 1911 to 1914 after being initiated to head the Sri Kanchi Mutt of Kamakotti Peetam.

Sri Paramacharya installed the idol of Sri Adi Sankarar at this bank and offered worship to it during his stay decades ago. The venue also accomodates an idol of Sri Paramacharya installed in September 2010.

According to Mutt sources, work on the construction of a temple dedicated to Sri Chandramouliswarar has been in progress at this village. The idols were worshipped by Sri Paramacharya during his stay between 1911 and 1914.
