A large number of devotees pulled the car of Sri Subramaniaswamy Temple at Kumara Vayalur near here on the occasion of ‘Vaikasi Visakam' festival on Sunday.
The idols of Sri Valli, Sri Deivayani and Lord Subramanya were taken out from the temple for ‘ratharohanam' in the morning and special pujas were performed. The newly-made 22-foot high temple car was pulled at about 3.30 p.m.
The panels of the car depict various incidents from the life of Sri Arunagirinathar.Elaborate bandobust was provided and vehicular traffic was regulated by police.
R. Karunakaran, Executive Officer of the temple, said that till last year, in the absence of the wooden car, the idols were taken out by carts.
The festival which commenced on June 4, concludes on Wednesday. A large number of devotees would offer worship with ‘paal kavadi' and ‘alagu' on Monday when ‘sankabhishekam' would be held at 4.30 p.m. followed by ‘theerthavari' rituals at 7 p.m. The float festival would be held on Tuesday and ‘alum pallakku' on Wednesday.

At Tiruverambur, devotees pulled the temple car of Sri Erumbeeswarar and offered worship to Sri Erumbeeswarar and Sri Narunkuzhal Nayaki. Devotees pulled the temple car on the occasion of ‘Vaikasi Visagam' festival at Sri Panchavarnaswamy temple in Woraiyur.
