With packaged drinking water dearer in the market, the demand for the Amma packaged water promoted by the State government is huge in Karur. However, inadequate supply of just 250 bottles a day has hindered many from getting hold a few more bottles. The water is available for around half an hour a day at the retail outlet at the bus stand.
“It is great that we are getting packaged drinking water at an affordable price. Retailers are charging arbitrarily other competing brands. They are even charging differential rates in various places.
Today when protected water in public places is a scarcity, the packaged water is a boon to frequent travellers like me,’’ says R. Viswanathan, a sales executive, who regularly commutes between Karur, Salem, Erode and Coimbatore.
“What we commuters need is increase in quantum of bottles to meet the demand.
“We understand that the initial hiccups need to be overcome, but the State government must take effective steps to ensure more supply in towns like Karur,” Mr. Viswanathan adds.
A bottle of packaged drinking water is sold for Rs. 10 at the outlet at Muthukumarasamy bus stand. The consignment of bottles is received here from the TNSTC regional office in Tiruchi daily.
