Relatives and friends of a patient, who died a few days ago, on Monday staged a protest at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government College Hospital alleging medical negligence. Workers of Puthiya Tamizhagam participated in the agitation.

They raised slogans demanding proper action against those who were responsible for the death of C. Pappammal (49) of Woraiyur.

It was said that Pappammal, who was admitted to the hospital on May 28, died on May 31. She was supposed to be operated upon on May 29. Since she developed complications minutes before the appendicitis surgery, the doctors cancelled it. She was then shifted to Intensive Care Unit and died subsequently.

Her relatives alleged that she was administered anaesthesia by a person and an overdose claimed her life.

Later, the protesters met M.K. Muralidharan, dean of the hospital, to air their grievances. They demanded suitable action those responsible for her death. Based on his assurance, they withdrew the protest.

Meanwhile, hospital authorities conducted preliminary enquiry with an anaesthetist.
