CRS holds probe into derailment

The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Southern Circle, S.K. Mittal, conducted a statutory inquiry on Tuesday into derailment of Chennai Egmore-Mangalore Express near Puvanur in the Villupuram-Tiruchi chord line section.

The day-long probe was held at the Officers Rest House at Villupuram during which top officials from the Southern Railway headquarters and Tiruchi Railway Division including the Tiruchi Divisional Railway Manager A.K.Agarwal were present.

The accident in which Thirty-nine passengers were injured when five coaches of the express train went off the track and caused injuries to 39 passengers were injured took place on September 4.

Railway sources said the probe commenced at around 10 a.m. and went on for nearly eight hours. The CRS conducted enquiries with officials from various railway departments.
