Crop loan: ₹1,028 crore allocated for delta districts

Cooperative societies will advance ₹1,028 crore as crop loan to farmers in delta districts, including Tiruchi and Thanjavur, Minister for Cooperation Sellur K. Raju said here on Thursday.

Chairing a review meeting on disbursal of crop loan to farmers of eight delta districts, the Minister said farmers could approach 697 primary agricultural cooperative credit societies in the region for the loan. Out of ₹1,028 crore, ₹144.86 crore had already been disbursed. Since farming operations were picking up in delta districts following the opening of Mettur dam, the ryots were approaching credit societies for loan. Hence, the officials had been asked to disburse loan as quickly as possible.

Mr. Raju said Government Officers Cooperative Stores had 27 fair price shops. A mini super market had been opened at Bheema Nagar, which would be controlled by the store. It was expected that the mini super market would transact business to the tune of ₹1.5 lakh a month. Seed and dhal processing units had been established at Lalgudi at a cost of ₹60 lakh.

Tourism Minister Vellamandi N. Natarajan, Backward Classes and Minority Welfare Minister S. Valarmathi, Tiruchi MP P. Kumar, Registrar of Cooperative Societies R. Palanisamy and Collector K. Rajamani spoke at the meeing.
