Son kills father

An aged man was murdered allegedly by his son at Allur in the wee hours of Friday. Police have arrested T. Sasikumar (38) on the charge of killing his father M. Thangavel (65) of Allur.

Police sources said Thangavel who had given his properties – land measuring about 40 cent and two houses – to his sister Dhanabakiam refused to hand them over to Sasikumar after her death.

In a fit of rage, Sasikumar strangulated his father to death, the police said. The Jeeyapuram Police have registered a case.

Special sub inspector arrested

A Special Sub Inspector (SSI) serving at Vaiyampatti police station was arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC), Tiruchi unit on bribe charge on Friday.

The DVAC sleuths carried out a search in the house of SSI Perumal (54) and seized incriminating documents from there.

DVAC sources said P.Vellaisamy, a coolie worker of Anaikaranpatti in Manapparai taluk, was consuming TASMAC liquor in the petty shop of his daughter at his village when SSI Perumal took him to the Vaiyampatti police station and foisted a case charging Vellaisamy with selling liquor in the shop.

While releasing Vellaisamy on bail, the SSI directed him to meet him after 10 to 15 days.

The SSI demanded Rs. 1,000 as bribe from Vellaisamy, when the latter met him on Thursday, for having released him on bail and for not foisting a case against Vellaisamy's daughter.

The DVAC registered a case upon a complaint from Vellaisamy.

A trap was laid and the SSI was caught red handed by the DVAC sleuths while obtaining bribe money from Vellaisamy at the police station. The SSI was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court here and lodged in the Central Prison.
