The members of the CPI (M) staged a demonstration in front of the bus stand in Lalgudi town on Saturday to streamline the operation of sand-laden lorries to check fatal accidents.
The partymen said that accidents take place in Lalgudi area frequently due to the heavy movement of lorries transporting sand. The police should ensure the operation of lorries during specific time. They also demanded steps for laying a bypass road in Lalgudi. M. Jayaseelan, Lalgudi taluk secretary of the CPI (M) led the agitation. Members of the CITU, DYFI also took part in the agitation.
