The Tamizhaga Cauvery Farmers Association has demanded early convening of Cauvery Water Management Authority to ensure release of Cauvery water to the State as per the Tribunal Award.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, association general secretary P.R. Pandian said the Karnataka Chief Minister had during electioneering claimed that there was adequate storage of water in all dams. Hence, CWMA should meet at the earliest to decide on the release of water from Karnataka dams to lower riparian States.

He urged CWMA to set up its office in Karnataka so that it could monitor the dams effectively.

Mr. Pandian condemned the Union government for going ahead with hydrocarbon exploration projects in the delta region that too when the election model code of conduct was in force.

Although former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa banned the implementation of the methane project, such projects were being thrust on the people of Tamil Nadu under different names. The State government should clarify its position on this issue, he demanded.
