The Tamil Nadu Government College Teachers’ Association has criticised the Director of Collegiate Education for transferring government college teachers in the middle of the academic year in violation of established norms and urged the directorate to not effect such transfers.
It is an established practice to prepare a list of vacant positions in the beginning of the academic year and make transfers on the basis of seniority through open counselling. However, for the past two years, the director of collegiate education has been effecting transfers indiscriminately without following established procedures.
Such transfers affect students and the wards of transferred teachers, S.Tiruchelvam, State treasurer of the association, said in a statement issued here on Friday. The system should be stopped with immediate effect and the transfer through counselling alone should be followed.
He alleged that the government had not sanctioned the hiked grade pay of Rs.7,000 to government college teachers appointed after 2007 despite the fact that private colleges have been giving the hike to its teachers. The hiked pay should be paid to the teachers immediately, he said.
The government should come forward to implement the suggestion of the University Grants Commission regarding the retirement age of government college teachers which it had recommended to be 65 years.
He also demanded the government to factor in the contract service period of teachers for calculating pension.
The government should issue GO for the implementation of old age pension scheme announced for college teachers who joined service after 2004, he said.
