College girl falls from terrace, dies

In a freak incident, a 19-year-old girl, who fell from the terrace of a college in Mayiladuthurai a few days ago, succumbed to injuries early Tuesday.

K. Ramya was a second-year Computer Science student at Gnanambikai Government Arts College for Women in Mayiladuthurai. Police sources said on October 10, she and her friend Shamugapriya went to the terrace of the building to have food in the evening. Unaware that they were on the terrace, the watchman locked the doors. Then, the girls slither down using a dupatta.

The sources said Shanmugapriya got down using the dupata with Ramya holding the piece of cloth on the terrace. Upon nearing the ground, Shanmugapriya jumped and Ramya lost balance and fell down from the terrace. Ramya was rushed to Mayiladuthurai GH from where she was referred to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital. She succumbed in the early hours of Tuesday.
